Have you ever heard of Trichomonas vaginalis infection?

This infection is caused by an organism (protozoa) that is transmitted during unprotected sex and it is one of the most common infections in the world. If the infection is untreated,  it can be very dangerous especially during pregnancy because it can cause premature birth.

This infection is very widespread, especially because there are no clear symptoms. In men, the infection can often cause only mild discomfort or burning during urination, while in women the infection can manifest itself more with vaginal discharge yellow-greenish color and smelly.

How can you have a clear diagnosis? Simply make of screening with a buffer in which it is subsequently searched at the microscope the protozoan causing the infection. The buffer can be made to the urethra, vagina or urine.

If the buffer is positive, treatment will be very simple, but it will be important to start it as soon as possible and above all to do the same test also to your partner. To defeat the protozoan enough you will need to take the vaginal suppositories or even cream. It ‘important however to remember to go to carry out the test after a certain period of treatment to be sure of having defeated definitively the infection.

It’ s good to remember that the only way to prevent infection with Trichomonas vaginalis, is to have always protected sex with a condom.
