Does Obesity have health consequences?

Obesity is a disease that is more alarming in the Western world, because the excess of body fat that characterizes this condition greatly increases the risk of developing chronic diseases, worsening the quality of life of people who suffer from it.

Among the main consequences of obesity on health there are:

  • high pressure and high cholesterol, which are risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases;
  • high risk of glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes;
  • Breathing problems, such as asthma and sleep apnea;
  • musculoskeletal problems;
  • hepatic steatosis, gallstones and gastro-oesophageal reflux;
  • psycho-social consequences such as low self-esteem, social withdrawal, discrimination.
