The Mediterranean diet is considered a complete and balanced way of eating, in fact proper nutrition is inspired by this model. It has been shown that mediterean diet guarantees a good state of nutrition (and health), preventing cardiovascular diseases.
The principles of the Mediterranean diet are:
- greater consumption of cereals, preferably wholegrain, source of complex carbohydrates and fiber, with a decrease in the consumption of simple carbohydrates and refined sugars;
- reduction of saturated fat and consumption of olive oil, a valuable source of mono and polyunsaturated fats;
- increased consumption of plant-based protein, or legumes;
- High consumption of fruits and vegetables, sources of dietary fiber and vitamins;
- eat more white meat than red meat
- activeand healthy lifestyle.
